About the course

Japanese – Beginner and Elementary

This course is designed for beginners. The focus is on communication and learning to read basic Japanese. You’ll learn to think and express your ideas in Japanese,in real-life situations and interactive speaking practice. The goal is to help you build your confidence using basic Japanese. To communicate in Japanese, you must also have basic reading skills. Hiragana and katakana are phonetic sets of characters.  Mastering hiragana and katakana is the essential first step in learning to speak Japanese, as words are pronounced exactly as they are written. Each class will dedicate some time to practicing and mastering hiragana and katakana.

Akiko Mizushima brings a unique professional background to her Japanese language teaching, with prior experience in international banking, academic administration, and corporate management. She holds the Japanese Language Teaching Competency (JLTC) certificate and is currently completing a TESOL certification. Her Japanese classes develop learner confidence and independence, focusing on real-life communication that helps learners confidently build language skills for daily life.
